The Timpview boys tennis team swept all five championship matches of the southern divisional tournament Saturday at Spanish Fork, earning the top spots in next week’s 4A state tournament.

It was a repeat of the results of the Region 7 tournament, except that a Maple Mountain pair reached the finals in second doubles instead of the team from Lehi. The Pioneers were the runner-ups in the other four brackets.

In first singles, defending state champion John Pearce defeated Lehi’s Zach Dean 6-0, 6-0 to put himself in great position to repeat.

The other state qualifiers were Brock Aldred of Dixie third, Cade Sermersheim of Spanish Fork fourth, Ben Spencer of Springville fifth, Quin Black of Orem sixth, Chris Wiscombe of Maple Mountain seventh, Chris Beckett of Salem Hills eighth and Gentry Wiscombe of Mountain View ninth.

In the second singles bracket, Matt Pearce also had a perfect match against Pioneer JJ Tenney, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Also advancing are Dixie’s Trevan Ballan in third, Orem’s Caleb Gurr in fourth, Snow Canyon’s Matt Douglas in fifth, Maple Mountain’s Calder Groberg in sixth, Pine View’s Victor Petkovic in seventh, Provo’s Ethan Otterstrom in eight and Payson’s Tim Woods in ninth.

It was the same team outcome in third singles with a slightly different score as Zach Brown tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lehi’s Ty Mathis.

Others earning a state berth included Ryan Porter of Maple Mountain third, RJ Kennedy of Dixie fourth, Logan Wrigley of Snow Canyon fifth, Jake Mix of Provo sixth, Devon Terry of Timpanogos seventh, Tanner Davis of Orem eighth and Taylor Jensen of Spanish Fork ninth.

The exciting region championship match in first doubles was not repeated here. This time, Thunderbirds Brett Jaynes and Tanner Christensen won 6-3, 6-0 over Lehi’s David Tenney and McKay Peck.

The rest of the pairs moving forward in this bracket are Kendall Wilkey and Tom Lambert (Provo, 3rd), Nick Taylor and Kevin Rose (Maple Mountain, 4th), Dan Nelson and Christian Serage (Dixie, 5th), Austin Stephen and Devin Lindley Mountain View, 6th), Riley Hensley and Tosch Truman (Snow Canyon, 7th), Ben Rosenbaum and Nick Chingas (Spanish Fork, 8th) and Jacob Covey and Spencer Williams (Timpanogos, 9th).

In second doubles, Brandon Wardrop and Ryan Rostrom triumphed again, but this time the opponents were Golden Eagle duo Cameron Spilker and Mckay Luu, who fell 6-3, 6-3.
